| It was at Scarborough's
Penthouse club in May 1976 that 18 year old Pauline
Murray discovered what would take up most of the next 14
years of her life. After witnessing the Sex Pistols
Pauline and her Ferryhill comrades became full time
Pistols devotees earning for themselves by late 1976 the
title of 'Durham Contingent' coined by the N.M.E hacks.
Pauline had also formed her own punk band Penetration
after an Iggy Pop song on Raw Power.
They soon began gigging in their own right and debuted on vinyl with the inspiring 'Don't Dictate' on Virgin in late 77. After some brief success in 78/79 they succumbed to increasing record company pressure to crack America and split up in 1980 leaving Pauline to spend the next 10 years fronting various low key outfits and eventually drifting into obscurity by 1990. Now back gigging with a rejuvenated Penetration. |
