Punk 2007... Issue 5 October - Roxy Club Special
And so... after all the trials and tribulations and 2 years since I first started writing it....ladies & gentleman, punks and punkettes I present to you yet another f***ing Punk Rock book!

I give you 'The Roxy London WC2: A Punk Rock History'  and this whole update is about the book and the place. The book is 525 pages long, packed with photos and has a foreword by Tim Smith.

If you want to buy the book the details are at the bottom of the page or just click here!

The Roxy WC2

If you've just arrived here you might be thinking fucking hell what's going on here. The Roxy was yes just a club with four walls. BUT it was a lot more than that; it was important to Punk Rock and its development. Think CBGB's, think the Cavern..think Erics...think the Roxy Club. A place where everyone from the Clash to Sham 69 to the Police to the Psychedelic Furs played... Think fashion, drugs, sex, violence, fanzines, reggae, fishnets, DIY, bad music, good music, records, books, films...the whole frikken PUNK ROCK shebang and more!!!

Click here for a potted history of the Roxy Club.

 Roxy Diary

We've been privileged to feature the Diary of Nuffin on the site and now we've gone and done it again! Ladies and gentlefish we proudly present to you... the diary of Arcane Vendetta alias Adrian Fox Roxygoer, author of 'These Things' fanzine and drummer with the Nipple Erectors. A purer slice of 1977 punk life and the Roxy Club you will not find. It reeks of Punk Rock and being young. Live through months of Adrian's life in his diaries and tell me a tear doesn't come to your eye when you read the last entry. Fantabulous stuff. Read it here!

We played the Roxy! Multi page histories & features ...

The Mistakes Sahara Farm Neo The Heat
Oh yes, Roxy house band and at one time featuring that loveable scamp Max Splodge. And of course a Rolf Harris connection! Add in Afghan Rebels, 2 Pints of lager and  rehearsals at the Roxy Lordy however in the white hot crucible of 1977 did they arrive at that name? Never you mind though as they recount the hi jinx that lead them to become Robert & The Remoulds when members of the band reacted to a record contract by leaving and a friend at the Roxy dressed himself in just a  bin liner! Take a band called Milk & Cookies who played CBGB's and Maxs, add in Radio Stars, Ultravox, Gillan and Masterswitch to name a few and even mention Depeche Mode with the Vortex and Roxy Club to boot. God Neo were complicated! Steve Hooker is a bona fide rock 'n' roll legend still knocking 'em dead today. Here he talks about The Heat and recalls their interesting gig at the Roxy and encounter with Kevin St John.

Errr - is this how authors behave?

So you wanna write a book?  - Part 1
A brief guide to what you can expect and some commentaries on my own journey through the writing maze. What a farce!

Interview shenanigans
The longest interview request ever goes to my attempt to interview Captain Sensible. Follow the two year email chain and relive with me some of the comedic highs and lows of the chase! Christ how time flies eh?

I said 'Captain' he said 'Wot' x 500 times!

1) Teds & Punks
2) Teds & Punks  - The Phoney war

Two features here... 1) Skinheads, Mods, Goths, Grunge... the list is endless....back in the summer of hate there was the Teds. How we laughed at their outmoded style of dress some 20 years old, outlandish hair and listening to music long past its sell by date. And of course here we are ourselves in 2007 doing just the same!!!!! Read on McDuff

2) Undoubtedly there was trouble and violence but not everywhere as Mike C explains here

Best Of MySpace
Being the bastard I am I said 'Mad Daddy - can you make these picks something to do with the Roxy?' And blow me he bloody well has...Something old and something new...

Some cool stuff from Peel, Knife & The 4th Ward Daggers, Transisters, Vox Jaguars and blimp with some great tracks from Roxy  and Punk77 faves Machines, Saints, the Now & Metal Urbain.

I've also been noticing on a few occasions how a band will feature here and then pop up on the front cover of a music mag as a 'discovery'. Trust the mad daddy to bring you the best!
