The Wasps story
is a peculiar one for Punk77 and goes well beyond the usual mini
histories we do. For one we have four accounts of the same band from
4 differing angles. You have the original band member, the leader
and driving force of the band, a late joiner bitter about the split
and a member from the last incarnation of the band. Add to these
opinions the music press and the music itself and how do you see the
band? What's the real story of the band? 4 months ago their entry
was based on cuttings and Gary Wellman's interview. Now that has
changed completely as more sides of the story comes out and are
added to the site. This is the strength of Punk77 and the web. While
books and articles can't be changed after the event, Punk77 is
an organic document of the times that can be added to or subtracted.
So The Wasps -
Gary's brisk bitter romp through his time in the band, Steve's detailed history
but very party linish and, I mean no disservice, slightly evangelical and
whitewashed, Jesse's peeling back the layers of a band split with dual
management and lawyers and lastly Tiam's less censored view of The Wasps endgame
with a solo Jesse and then its all over.
I was asked to pull Gary
Wellman's interview but refused. You decide what's the real story. But whatever is
written here its always the music that counts.
