Subway Sect - Band

Subway sect were initially Vic Goddard on Vocals, Robert Simmons - Guitar, Paul Smith - Drums and Paul Myers - Bass.

Mark Laff replaced Paul Smith march 1977 before leaving to join Generation X  in May 1977 and  who was replaced by Bob Ward. This classic mark 3 line up recorded the two singles and John Peel session.

By the time of the Ambition single release Simmons, Myers and Ward had left or been pushed. Vic in NME 7.10.78 says "he decided to reshape Sect to reflect his  new ideas in writing."  Interestingly he gives a different reason in our Punk77 interview.

A third line up with a blend of AOR/ jazz inflection was put together by Vic straight away but again without success. Vic became a postman and still writes and releases to this day.

For a band so shy of publicity this unusual advert for their tour came out with teen magazine style profiles of the band (see below). Interestingly for a band that wanted drums without cymbals Bob Wards hero is Ian Paice from Deep Purple and favourite band is the very metal Montrose!
