Basically the Scrots were a punk/diy band from Dundee, Scotland, in the
style of the Television Personalities and had one single
"Revelation"
(self-funded) which sold about a thousand copies. Tracks on the single
were Why Don't You Come
Out Tonight/Night Train/Pick the Cats Eyes Out/Helicopter Honeymoon/Radio
Tay.
The group amassed a small
but vocal following around Tayside and split up in 1981. Band members went
on to play in Pigs are Cute/Aaga/Synthetic Dreams and the Summerbees
(featuring Red Snapper and Beth Orton bassist Ali Friend). Incidentally
bass player Steve Grimmond went on to be Director of Music and Art and
Cultural Services at Dundee District Council !
Prior to that one other
release in 1979 - One Tone Records -
"Auchmithie Calling"
- tape format only. Only 100 made. Very poor quality copying, we got a
bloke to do it for nothing....I think we might have bought him a pint.

We
photocopied the covers because we couldn't afford to print them, and
then glued them together in my mum's kitchen. The remaining 300 were
sold by our bass player a few years after the band split up to a
dealer who re-issued them with another cover. |
