 Part 1 - Early Days | Part 2 - Holly & The Italians

The Joey Ramone 'I Got You Babe'  (1982) collaboration...You know I don't remember who came up with the idea, I think it was a promoter, not sure and wish I knew. Anyway it was recorded at one of Virgins' studios, The Manor, in the 'countryside' somewhere. It was my song arrangement, and my band, me on guitar, Bobby Collins on bass, and Kevin Wilkinson on drums. the engineer/producer was Steve Brown [Wham/George Michael, and lots more]

I later produced the synth part which was played by Tom Dolby, me and Tom sitting on the couch at the Townhouse studios in London. Joey was scared at first about adding synth, then loved it when he heard it. he LOVED the sound on that single, and asked me to join the Ramones as a result of making that single which I turned down because I was about to make the 'blue' album, and I figured Johnny would hate me the whole time. but he did call me from N.Y. and ask me to join.

The thing I remember about that session is there were these Irish wolfhound dogs there, and joey would stand next to one and say he liked them because  they made him look normal height. It was cute and funny to me. I was also sick when I was singing and in between my lines I'd stop and step outside and throw up. it was so nice there, green, beautiful countryside, and I would poke my head out the door and puke....God bless rock!

The cover of Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth' in a different style-whose idea? The video was shown on MTV Do you have a copy of this or anything else?
No copies of anything video-wise. Kevin and I took acid [LSD] and I told Mike and all to roll the tape. [tape!!!]
we had two drum kits set up, and it was just an experiment, and all improvised. yep...!!

Indigo Girl, Amy Ray, encouraged (and funded) you to form a band and record your next album oblivious which was issued on Ray's label, Daemon. This album brought you back to more of a rock sound. Was this a reaction against the previous album?
No I was just writing and doing what I felt like at that time. A cellist, Jane Scarpantoni, that I'd worked with in N.Y. was playing with the Indigo Girls here in L.A. and I met her [Amy} backstage and she asked me what I was doing, and then she asked if I'd want to make a record for her label Daemon.

Next was Vowel Movement with Johnette Napolitano, of Concrete Blonde. What do you think of this album now?
I like it. It was "two girls, six-days, and a bag of weed the size of your head"...never mixed, just us two goofing around, playing through a Marshall stack, making up the songs on the spot as we went along, laying down the bass and drum parts to start. Pure fun. I like it still. She's very talented, and such a personality, for better or worse.

Tell us about where you are musically now and what your next release will be?  If you were to gig tomorrow and you were going to throw a few covers in what would they be? (I notice you did a very interesting modern take (made me think massive attack meets new wave music) of 'Good Times, Bad Times' on a podcast recently)
My latest record is "Super Rocket Star" which is currently being shopped for a label, and a place for me to do future projects. I played everything from the ground up on most of the tracks ,hence all the electronic stuff. The Nashville tracks were began by Jon Tiven [Frank Black, et all] and sent to me to finish. We began working together. I was approached by him to write with and it went from there.

What new bands do you like now?  Do you gig regularly still? Do you have a regular band? Any plans to hit the UK?
I'm in a non-musical listening mode currently. More into art, looking at other peoples art work and getting inspiration from that and from artistic people in general. I'm really liking myspace for that reason. So many interesting, and artistic people showing themselves, even if it's just their approach to life, or how they dress.
So no favourite bands or anything right now.  Me, I guess. I'm my favourite, and some of the people I've come across just clicking around.

I may perform solo soon, but no dates yet. I'd love to play in the UK and in Europe. love to. I miss it.

Please tell us about your website/myspace site Anyone reading this please contact holly to arrange podcast coverage etc..
Yes, anyone can contact me here at myspace.com/hbvincent. I'm pretty friendly, and don't bite. Very civilized for a 'rock' person. Haha. As you can see, I'm more of a 'musician' than a 'rock' chick. Always have been. That 'girls in rock' thing has always made me laugh. You can see why.
