Temptations Of A White Collar Worker  Lookalikes / Corgi Crap / Hard On Me / You'll Lose (OHMS '77)

"...another do-it-yourself job, this with four tracks recorded in just 10 hours on April 7. Awful playing and sound quality but the lyrics are powerful and direct and in terms of playing time its good value." Sounds 13.8.77

Good strong single and nothing wrong with the playing or sound. The pick of the bunch being Lookalikes. For me the definitive version that pisses over their remake and pure '77 punk.

Bone Idol / Just Wanna Be Myself (Valer '77)

"It wouldn't be constructive to suggest that Manchester's answer to The Damned have rewritten Arthur Lee's 'Seven & Seven Is' with 'Bone Idol'. Why not? 'Cos  this 'Bone Idol' is pretty good in its own right. 'Just Wanna Be Myself' has more of a mid tempo Bowie flavour to it...." Sounds 24.9.1977

This is one of the all time classic punk singles. 'Nuff said. Get it!

Now I have to disagree here with the Sounds review above from 3.12.1977 . 'Further Temptations' is an ok album but not a great album. It has its moments ...Sad So Sad, Be My Baby and  the superb Persecution Complex but apart from City Drones & Underdogs has a narrowness of vision and sound.  Nice touch marketing the album with small ads like prostitutes ad cards but might have worked even better if they mentioned the bands name!

The next Drones single would be in 1979 (Can't See / Fooled Today - Fabulous Records)  but by then no one was listening anymore.

Check out The Drones on two compilations: 'Lookalikes' on the 'Streets' comp on Beggars Banquet & them doing 'Persecution Complex' on 'The Live At The Electric Circus' on Virgin.

Their one excellent John Peel radio session was broadcast on 13.12.77 and featured Be My Baby, The Change, Clique & Movement.
