And so it came
to pass that the mighty Stranglers despite the GLC's best attempts
to stop them playing in London organised a festival in Battersea Park. It has
become famous or infamous for two reasons. One - tracks from this
gig were featured on
Live X Certs
and two - the stripper friends of Jean Jacques joined the band
onstage revealing quite a lot! Amazingly all those rock weeklies,
Sounds, NME & Record Mirror who were forever calling the band
sexist seemed to take delight in showing many pictures of the
occasion. These same papers later criticised the band for
featuring the Scottish headline on the cover of
X Certs
'Stranglers in Nude Woman Horror Shock'.
Pathetic! As a 14 year old these pictures were a revelation!
