Punk 2008... Issue 9 - July 2008

My Name Is Paul

You know the kind of guy who writes some bad things, and then wonders why his life sucks? Well... that was me. Every time something good happened to me, something bad was always waiting around the corner. Karma. That's when I realised I had to change. So, I made a list of everything bad I've ever written and, one by one I'm going to make up for all my mistakes. I'm just trying to be a better person. My name is Paul.

Sham 69

OK here's another wrong made right. For 8 years the Sham entry has been mainly a negative one from the Melody Maker.

This issue we see the mighty Sham 69 given the full Punk77 treatment and overhaul to give them their due and place in the punk firmament.

Sham 69 were a shit hot punk band of the late seventies. Discover why with an extensive history and discography and an entry choc full of goodies and surprises. Extensive quotes from Dave Parsons and Jimmy and comments from TalkPunk regulars Kenny, Nigey B, Angry

Basczax

With a name bastardised from Bass sax  and the ex singer of Blitzkrieg Bop on keyboards this Teeside band were not going to be run of the mill. Bass player Mick Todd recounts the time of Punk, Fast records and songs with titles like 'Karleean Photography.'

First Time at The Roxy

Regular of the Ranch and Eric's, Rita Pike got in touch after she appeared in the Roxy Club book and gave a short interview about the time she went to the club and her recollections.

We also feature in full her Roxy contribution to the fanzine 'Summer Salt' from 1977 and some great photos of Sham 69 and Menace from the night.

The Lazers

Oh yes it's another long lost band from ye olde Roxy Club. Gary Miller tells us about songs like 'Incest Is Best' and auditioning before gay gangster club owner Kevin St John in his living room while he made lewd comments!
