Punk 2008... Issue 11 - December 2008
Christmas time...mistletoe and wine....yep another fekkin year draws to a close.

Fallen by the wayside this year were two great sites Punk & Oi and Trakmarx. The former driven and owned by Rebecca did so much over the years to help promote and keep alive the current punk scene and the latter was a great source of stimulating articles and thoughts.

But we still keep churning on. The premise is still the same as when we started - shit loads of punk rock with maximum images, sounds and info.

My thanks to Ms Dayglo for all the Talkpunk work and Norm for technical assistance that's been much needed this year and to anyone who's contributed including Ian Part Time, Blitzkrieg Bob, Mad Daddy, Kenny, Nigey B and anyone I've missed. Contributions are always welcome.

Next year is Punk77's 10th anniversary. There may or may not be a special event at some stage next year.

Have a great Christmas and New Year!!

Alternative TV

Massive history and discography of the band that wanted to be so much more than yer standard punk rock fare. Lead by former Sniffin' Glue founder Mark Perry the band took and ever weirder route into noise and avant garde via Stonehenge hippies. It wasn't an easy path and there's a faint whiff of elitist tosh but their heart was in the right place.

They also worked an ever decreasing commercial circle as they broke free from the traditional rock circus of touring, regular bands and defined persons per instruments.

Good Missionaries

"Perry has cheerfully and naively disregarded the slightest imitation of rock 'n' pop frameworks and become totally intrigued by noise, space and improvisation." Paul Morley 31.3.79

The final conclusion of Alternative TV exiting the rock template and finally severing all ties with their former past and playing 'How Much Longer!'

Luxhound Deluxe

With the Killjoys disintegrating and the band becoming more than a little pissed off with Kevin Rowland another band was actually formed who did gigs, demos and were on their way.

Drummer Bob Peach tells the story and supplies the piccies.

One for the Gents.....

One for the ladeez...

The Shapes - Brian Helicopter

An interview from way back in the year 2000 that's lain untouched beneath the holy grail and arc of the covenant in my loft! I don't understand why I never published because it's really frickin good!

The Shapes are back together again for a few dates so it's a timely event. Read about Leamington, punk posers and the trials and tribulations of a band signing to a major label who didn't understand. Fuck me they did some classic punk stuff!

Machine

Daimler factories, East Midlands and only a short while before The Specials would weave their two tone magic on the land. Machine (as opposed to Sarfends Machines) were strutting their stuff and made it as far as the excellent 'Sent From Coventry' compilation before turning into Hot Snacks!

Seeing as it's Christmas check out Doc Mustards disturbing video below from this year (lol)!

You might think Doc Mustard is a bit odd but  he also tackles the serious subject of the plight of the old
in his own inimitable way. A moving video.

Spinnerette (featuring Brody Dalle) Ghetto Love EP is out to buy) and very good it is too. You can check out the songs and download Here
