Behind the hideous cover and a title that doesn't really reveal much is an absolute gem of a book (written in 1984) and one that anyone interested in the role of women in music since its beginning should read. Sensible and balanced in its views, its opening premise is that you shouldn't focus on women as a breed apart in music. The book of course then goes on to do that and so it will be until women in music are as obvious and plentiful as guitars.  Features quite a bit on the punk scene's influence with quotes from Viv Albertine, Julie Burchill, Marion Fudger and others. Excellent.
