From The Velvets To The Voidoids - Clinton Heylin (Penguin)

Clinton Heylin has produced a a rather too serious and sometimes academic look at US Punk and traces its beginnings to The Velvet Underground. At times a struggle to read. That said he wrote the excellent sleeve notes to the cd Punk Legends - The American Roots (Jungle records) and is a good guide to American Punk including Wayne County, The Stooges, M.C.5, New York Dolls, The Ramones, Pere Ubu, Suicide, Richard Hell, Heartbreakers, Dead Boys, Flaming Groovies, and The Dictators. 

Funnily enough I went to the Scala in Kings Cross many years ago and watched a film of compilation footage of the above bands and unwittingly listened to a talk by the man himself. Wow !!
