Punk 2008... Issue 10 - October 2008

There is no melody, only notes, a myriad of tiny jolts. They know no rest, an inflexible order gives birth to them and destroys them without even giving them time to recuperate and exist for themselves. They race, they press forward, they strike me a sharp blow in passing and are obliterated.

I would like to hold them back, but I know if I succeeded in stopping one it would remain between my fingers only as a raffish languishing sound. I must accept their death; I must even will it: I know few impressions. stronger or more harsh. 'Nausea' J.P. Sartre

Well we're now on a Virtual Private Server that should give the site and forum more stability. That said in true IT/Techie form they managed to lose posts, forget to transfer files and a number of other fuck ups! (lol) We've still got problems with the search but hopefully that will be resolved soon.

Thanks to everyone who donated. Here's a nice chunky update of Punkus maximus to keep the old youth buds tickled!!

The Vibrators

Nine (nine!) years ago I tentatively emailed Knoxie for my first interview for Punk77 and the great man duly obliged. Much like renovating the house I've duly arrived at the Vibrators again and this update the entry is given a massive overhaul with the usual videos, piccies and trawl through the papers of the times.

If you don't like the Vibrators you haven't got a musical bone in your body and probably listen to Duffy and think she's original.

Were they punk? Who fekkin cares... Also included is the original Punk77 page from 1999 for historical purposes and to laugh at!

Spotty Dogs

Another of the legendary Roxy Club bands. Justin Semmens their guitarist tells the story of the band, the Roxy and being unplugged, Antz special parties with no walls in the loo, spraying the infamous graffiti 'Sign the Banshees' and the pitfalls of spraying silver car paint in your hair!

Killjoys - Bob Peach

Another view of the band from their last drummer Bob Peach following singer Kevin's comments. Not only that Bob has kindly let us show his scrapbook. So delve right in...it's great!

Last but not least we've taken the opportunity to completely revamp ALL the Killjoys pages with new images and completely redo the history in the light of all the interviews and comments. So reread the whole thing Punkers!!

Eddie & The Hot Rods

Tales of a 6'6" dummy, MC5, Aleister Crowley with Mickey Mouse ears, drugs, altercations with the Sex Pistols, classic singles and a guitarist losing it and biting the drummers ankles before being sacked!

Eddie & The Hot Rods predated punk with their energy and sheer amphetamine style rock. How did  a band at the top of it's game with 'Life On The Line' album not make the big time big style.

Complete history and discography with the usual sounds and videos to boot while Graeme Douglas the guitarist adds some memories.

Its a scorcher and thanks to Ian Part Time for the impetus to deliver this mega update!!!

The Idols

London Cowboys

Tony James, Glen Matlock, Mike Monroe, Terry Chimes, Jerry Nolan, Walter Lure, Sid Vicious, Rikki Sylvan are some of the names to pass through these bands in their lifetimes. The link between the two is ex Roxy Club owner Barry Jones and his pal Steve Dior. Read short histories of the bands here with some great photos courtesy of Jungle records who have just released the London Cowboys/Idols compilation cd.

Relapse -The Best Of London Cowboys

Oh yes indeed a healthy dose of sleazy rock 'n' roll in the style of da Noo Yawk Dolls and Hearbreakers with a whole host of famous punk faces in there at some time or another. My pick is the excellent 'Blue Murder'
